Designers Sketch Their Suggestions for Taylor Swift’s Wedding Dress

When Grammy-winning artist Taylor Swift revealed her engagement in August to NFL player Travis Kelce, the internet went wild over the couple’s intimate, “Love Story” engagement.

As reported by WWD, a survey by The Knot predicted their engagement is anticipated to increase the spend on weddings over the next two years, which they called “The Swiftification of Weddings.”

Furthermore, Swift’s engagement wardrobe spiked high interest. As reported, her striped Ralph Lauren dress sold out the same day as the announcement, as did the inventory of her old mine brilliant-cut diamond ring’s designer, local New York jeweler Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry.

Although the power couple has reportedly not set a wedding date or location (rumored to be at her “Holiday House” in Rhode Island) for their wedding, the guessing game began immediately: Who would design the global pop icon’s wedding dress?

Will she wear something vintage, perhaps a nod to “Elizabeth Taylor,” or a new and flashy ensemble, à la her “Showgirls” era? From an American or European designer? Would there be one main dress or, like many celebrity weddings, several?

In anticipation of one of the most talked-about global weddings, WWD asked designers to sketch their suggestions for Swift’s bridal wares.

“For Taylor, I imagined a bridal look where Sicilian artistry meets Nashville Western spirit. The gown combines delicate Sicilian macramé lace with the sparkle of turquoise stones and crystal filigree,” Fausto Puglisi, creative director of Roberto Cavalli and wardrobe collaborator of Swift’s, said of his bridal proposition for her. “A poetic fusion of my Mediterranean roots and her DNA. I wanted to celebrate both worlds: the passionate craftsmanship of Italy and the free, romantic energy of American music.”

“For Taylor I imagined a very impactful dress, with a big volume but at the same time super lightweight and fluid: a cascade of hand-pleated chiffon trimmed with delicate lace. I think the overall look of the gown is very feminine and romantic, but at the same time very strong and quite unique, like her artistic personality,” Lorenzo Serafini, creative director of Alberta Ferretti, told WWD.

“I envisioned Taylor in a couture reinterpretation inspired by the roots of Sardinian tradition. A tribute to the craftsmanship and feminine strength that have always defined this heritage, translated into a contemporary, pure, and sophisticated vision,” designer Antonio Marras, who has dressed the artist many times, told WWD of his proposal for her bridal dress.

“The dress is crafted in a milky tone, featuring a monumental, pleated skirt made entirely by hand: micro-pleats sewn and pressed over months, inlaid with lace inserts that create a sculptural sense of lightness. The structured corset with boning and the embroidered cotton shirt converse between rigor and romance, while the veil and filigree details reinterpret traditional jewelry in an essential key. A balance between roots and modernity, between memory and desire.”
