Aldi has brought back a festive pastry just like Greggs – but for a third of the price. As part of the discount supermarket’s Christmas celebrations, the Festive Bake has been reintroduced to shelves with a box of two being sold for £1.39, which works out around 70p for one.
They’re similar to Greggs’ Festive Bake offering, which costs three times as much at £2.10. Greggs’ version also returned to their shops this month. Greggs’ Festive Bake is filled with pieces of chicken, bacon, sage and onion, all held together by a creamy sage and cranberry sauce for that Christmas festive sweet and savoury flavour. Shoppers may not be pleased to learn that the Festive Bake’s price has actually increased by 10p since last year.
However, their woes can be extinguished by the arrival of Aldi’s cheaper Festive Bake, thoroughly undercutting the popular chain bakery. The bakes are sold frozen though, so you do need to heat them up for 27 minutes, but then they can be enjoyed in then comfort of your own home.
The Aldi version has very similar ingredients and is described as “chicken, Beechwood smoked bacon and juicy cranberries in a creamy sage and onion sauce wrapped in flakey golden puff pastry with a crunchy parsley breadcrumb topping”.
Aldi is making big waves before Christmas, and not just with its delicious Christmassy offerings. 16 new stores are due to open between now and the beginning of Christmas in just five weeks.
As part of a £1.6billion investment by the budget supermarket, new shops will all be operational between Thursday, November 6, and Friday, December 12. There will be about 40 new jobs at each site, 640 in total. The new shops will make festive shopping that much easier for those close by. Take a look where they all are:
