The No. 1 Beverage to Have on an Afternoon Break, According to Lindsay Lohan

As an actress, mom, businesswoman, and pop-culture icon, it’s safe to say that Lindsay Lohan has a packed schedule — and it’s likely to get even busier as she ramps up promotion for this year’s release of the long-anticipated Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday.

While most of us aren’t celebrities or household names like Lohan, the role of a busy, working woman is something many people can relate to. For anyone burdened with a schedule that’s stressful just to look at, the actress has one valuable piece of advice for staying relaxed and refreshed: take a daily tea break.

Today, Lohan announced that she is teaming up with iced tea brand Pure Leaf to support its “Time for a Tea Break Campaign.” This isn’t Lohan’s first time partnering with Pure Leaf to promote taking a break each day, and it’s easy to understand why. There’s a wide variety of research supporting the thesis that taking short breaks can improve focus, increase productivity, and minimize stress.

While speaking with Food & Wine about the campaign, the actress emphasizes that “It’s really important for me as a mom, wife, businesswoman, actress, to take those 10 minutes throughout the day for myself just to revitalize and recharge, and I love that Pure Leaf is sending that message to everyone and I want to be a part of it.”

In spite of the clear benefits, it can be surprisingly difficult to remind yourself to carve out time for an intentional break for your brain. Scrolling on your phone doesn’t have the same effect as options like meditating, taking a few deep breaths, going for a walk, or having a simple drink or snack. One easy way to ensure you’re doing the latter and taking a moment to mentally reset is to schedule a daily afternoon tea session for yourself, just like Lindsay Lohan.

How does Lindsay Lohan serve her iced tea?

Taking a break is all about the little luxuries. This doesn’t have to mean splurging on something expensive; instead, it can be as easy as upgrading the everyday drink you have in the afternoon.

For Lohan, this often translates to turning her favorite bottle of iced tea into something that looks like she just picked it up at a coffee shop. She explains that her ideal break “Starts with putting my phone down, leaving it on silent, maybe getting a cup of ice, a lemon wedge, a Pure Leaf iced tea, going outside and just getting a breath of fresh air and sitting with my thoughts and kind of zoning out for a minute and having some iced tea.”

Pouring iced tea into a tall glass filled with ice and adding a lemon wedge can feel like a simple act of self-care. If you want to elevate your drink, consider adding extra ingredients, as Lindsay Lohan recommends. The Freakier Friday star suggests that with unsweetened iced tea, “you can add raspberries or blueberries. You can really add anything to it, which I love. You can kind of mix and match and make it your own and personalize it.”

This is low effort, and according to Lohan, you don’t need to muddle the fruit into the tea. “I just put them right in so it slowly kind of sweetens it a little bit…. Even pomegranate seeds would be good,” she says. There’s no fancy equipment or frothers required to make iced tea with a handful of blueberries stirred in, but this drink will still make you feel like you’ve crafted something special just for yourself.

What snacks does Lindsay Lohan pair with iced tea?

An afternoon break with iced tea is great, but a break with iced tea and a snack is even better. Iced tea can come in a wide variety of flavors, ranging from sweet to unsweet and raspberry to mint, making it easy to pair your tea of choice with your favorite snack.

Lohan notes that “Iced tea — for me — goes with everything,” but there are a few snacks she’s been enjoying on her tea breaks lately. To start, the actress and mom says, “I made a banana cake recently, and… I keep cutting small squares of it off and I’m like, I’m not going to finish it today. I’m just having a square of it, but I’m the only one eating it.”

She doesn’t always have a fresh batch of banana cake, and for a snack she can enjoy all day, Lohan usually opts for something surprising yet simple, telling Food & Wine, “I love carrots with lemon on them.” You heard that correctly, and she does mean raw carrots with a squeeze of lemon juice on top. That might sound unexpected, but the flavor combinations do work together: the combo is subtly sweet, refreshing, and tart. Which sound like tasting notes that would pair perfectly with a glass of iced tea.
