Ms Ingram explained that should the forecast be “less than £175.20 per week under the new State Pension or £134 for a pension starting before 6th April 2016, you may be able to increase it” via a number of ways.

One way is to claim Specified Adult Childcare Credits.

“Specified Adult Childcare Credit can be claimed by anyone under state pension age who is voluntarily caring for family members under 12, while the parents work,” said Ms Ingram, who is also a chartered financial planner.

“For those eligible, the credits can be backdated up to 2011 and could be worth extra state pension of as much as £2,340 per annum.”
