Pret has reported that trade is still down by 60 percent year-on-year despite the lockdown easing in the UK.

The sandwich chain is a popular choice for office workers on their lunch breaks, but with remote working continuing for many businesses around the country, the shops are not seeing the footfall that they’re used to.

Pret a Manger chief executive officer Pano Christou commented: “I’m gutted that we’ve had to lose so many colleagues.

“Although we’re now starting to see a steady but slow recovery, the pandemic has taken away almost a decade of growth at Pret.”
