Paul McCartney celebrates birthday but fans want to see one thing from him

Fans of the legendary group The Beatles are celebrating Paul McCartney’s birthday and were united in a common desire.

The legendary Beatles songwriter, who turns 83 today (June 18), continues to be a staple of the stage and in the studio.

Yet listeners are clamouring for more from the Wings frontman as they collectively share the same wish.

A thread on the r/PaulMcCartney Reddit page saw admirers extend birthday greetings to the iconic musician.

Interspersed with the good tidings was a plea from many that McCartney not retire from music now that he has reached the age of 83. The Let it Be and Live and Let Die composer has left some feeling inspired, and hopeful of future live shows.

One enthusiast commented: “I hope that I’ll still be able to do three-hour concerts when I’m in my eighties.” Another added: “Life goals.” Additional fans expressed their hopes of witnessing McCartney live in the not-too-distant future.

A fan wrote: “Happiest of birthdays, sir! Hope to see you in concert next year!” While McCartney hasn’t announced a tour, his latest live performances included a marathon three-hour set featuring his most beloved songs.

In the UK, he played a quartet of gigs in Manchester and London. He also graced the stage at The Bowery in New York and celebrated Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary with a performance.

Whether McCartney will hit the road again remains uncertain, but his followers are keeping their fingers crossed for additional dates to be added to the Got Back itinerary.

One fan commented: “I would imagine he’ll keep going until he’s physically unable!” Echoing that sentiment, another said: “As he says at the end of the One Hand Clapping Doc, ‘I think I’ll keep going til I drop!'”

A third fan recounted a recent live experience: “Absolutely. I just saw him live in Mexico City last Thursday and he looked like he can definitely tour some more. He actually said, ‘Hasta la próxima’ (Until the next one).”

They also expressed hope, stating: “Hope he can still tour and bring so much joy to people all over the world as long as he is healthy and OK with that.”

The enthusiasm for Paul McCartney to continue touring is palpable among his followers, particularly when taking into account Ringo Starr’s ongoing performances at 85.

One fan compared McCartney to fellow veterans of the stage, writing: “That’s my thought. Bruce Springsteen is 75 or 76 and said at his age taking a long break from touring doesn’t make sense because nobody in the band is getting younger and healthier.

“I’d imagine Paul must be thinking the same thing, ‘I can do this now but can I do it at 90? Probably not, so I better take advantage of the moment that will surely end soon.'”
