Facundo Pellistri has revealed he turned down an offer from Lyon before completing a deadline day move to Manchester United.

The 18-year-old winger, who sealed a £9million move from Atletico Penarol, was one of four signings for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer, alongside Donny van de Beek, Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles.

United missed out on their primary target Jadon Sancho, and though making just 37 appearances for Penarol, Pellistri is regarded as a player for the future and was given the first-team squad number of 28.

Pellistri was linked with Real Madrid, Atletico and Juventus before making his United move, but the youngster has now revealed he also received interest from France.

“It was unimaginable and to play in the first division of Penarol and now to do it in Manchester United,” Pellistri told Uruguayan outlet Futbol.

“I would never have dreamed of it and it is something very emotional for me and my family. There was a lot of talk about the two offers and luckily they tried to leave me out as much as possible so as not to go crazy.

“First came Lyon and then Manchester and I am very happy with the opportunity.

“It’s a league that I always watch with my parents, seeing the great teams and you can’t imagine going to play there.

“Now that I have the chance to play there, I’m eager to start a new adventure and see how the rhythm is and if it is as much as they say.”
