Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he is likely to make changes to his line-up when Liverpool take on Chelsea for the Uefa Super Cup.

The opportunity for the Reds to secure some early European silverware comes five days after they beat Norwich 4-1 in their opening game of the new Premier League season.

But it is the prospect of that league campaign continuing at Southampton 72 hours on from Wednesday’s game in Istanbul that has Klopp minded to rotate his squad.

He told the club’s official website: “It was Friday to Wednesday so that should be OK but after that we need to think about the Southampton game.

“We come back on Thursday and two days later we play Southampton, so we cannot ignore that game as well.

“It’s difficult to say now about the Southampton game, it’s not too cool to think about the next game really before you play the first one, but you can’t ignore it.

“We have opportunities and I think we will use a few of them just to bring fresh legs, to show immediately that we can play good football in different line-ups and stuff like this. So yes, there will be a few changes I think.”

Naby Keita appears unlikely to feature among those changes after limping out of training at Vodafone Park on Tuesday evening with what appears to be a muscle complaint.

But Sadio Mane should be ready to start in the Turkish capital having missed out on a starting place for the opening league game of the season.

Klopp added: “I think he would have been ready to start on Friday, but after five days and having two players on the pitch with pretty much no pre-season up front you have to look a little bit at how you can do it.

“It’s not clear from the first second which three players you have to change, especially with them, which kills all your plans when the goalie leaves the pitch that early.

“So I think it was the right thing to do, but he’s for sure fresher now, fitter now, and yeah, he is ready.”

Meanwhile, summer signing Adrian is set to make his first start for the club in the place of Alisson Becker, who will miss the next few weeks with a calf injury picked up against the Canaries.

Predicted XI: Adrian, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Salah, Mane, Firmino.
