Jimmy Carr has become a household name for dark comedy style and TV hosting skills. He has fronted shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and The Big Fat Quiz of the Year. This has made him one of the wealthiest comedians currently around.

Jimmy was born in Hounslow, London, on September 15, 1972.

After gaining a degree from Gonville and Caius College at Cambridge, he went into a marketing job.

He worked in the marketing team for the gas and oil company Shell for six years before moving on in 2000.

Within a month of leaving his job, Jimmy started to earn as a comedian with his first paid stand-up gig.

He continued a career in comedy and was soon selling out shows across the UK and Ireland, including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The TV star built up his fortune with numerous stand-up tours, reportedly only taking five weeks off between each stint.

In 2002, he expanded his work into presenting and hosted two Channel 4 game shows, Distraction and Your Face or Mine?.

While the game shows did not last long, Jimmy landed a job hosting the ‘100s’ series, which counted down the top 100 of subjects including pop records and cartoon characters.

He is perhaps best known for fronting the comedy panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats which he has done since 2005.

The show was given a spin-off series, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, which started in 2012.

Each year, he will host the panel show The Big Fat Quiz of the Year for Channel 4.

The presenter has also fronted The Fix which is an American panel show available on Netflix.

Jimmy may be a regular on the small screen, but he has not given up his love of stand-up shows.

The comedian has continued to write and perform stand-up tours which have often sold out.

He has previously topped up his bank account by releasing DVDs of his tours once they have ended.

Jimmy also has money in property and purchased an Edwardian home in North London for a cool £10million in 2010.
