United States President Donald Trump stepped onto North Korean soil today for a meeting with Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-Un. The pair could be seen shaking hands, as Donald hailed his “great relationship” with Kim, before inviting him to the White House. Speaking of the border crossing, Donald revealed Kim had asked if he wanted to cross, to which he said “I said, I would be so honoured.” “I said I would be honoured to do that — I didn’t know what really was he was going to say, but it was my honour,” he added. The pair concluded their meeting, agreeing to start nuclear talks, with Trump saying: “We’re not looking for speed, we’re looking to get it right.”

This third meet-up sounded like Trump’s attempt to get things back on track, but Kim’s body language signals here do suggest otherwise.

Body language expert Judi James shared her analysis with Express.co.uk, and she believes Donald’s interaction with Kim, 35, suggested he was trying to get their relationship back on track, following their second meeting in February, as he appeared to be doing “most of the work” during the conversation.

In one photo, the US president can be seen making a funny face, as Kim cracks a faint smile.

Judi said: “Trump is a man who likes a narrative in his relationships with other world leaders. With Kim there was the name-calling brinkmanship before they met for the first time and displayed signals of potential friendship.

“But then their body language during their second meeting looked frosty, suggesting that budding ‘friendship’ had broken down.

“This third meet-up sounded like Trump’s attempt to get things back on track, but Kim’s body language signals here do suggest otherwise.”

Back in February, the pair met in Hanoi, Vietnam for the start of the second nuclear summit. They initially seemed pleased to see one another, shaking hands just like today.

However, fears soon rose after the visit, with many concerned Donald’s eagerness for an agreement would give Kim too much in return for little or nothing.

According to Judi James, the same dynamic appears to be present in their relationship with one another, with Donald working harder at their conversation earlier today.

While Donald maintained eye contact throughout their conversation, the same wasn’t reciprocated from Kim who displayed a “lack of flexibility.”

Judi continued: “As Kim poses slightly splayed with his arms at his side and eyes to camera for the official shots there’s a lack of flexibility about his body language that makes it look as though it’s Trump doing all the work when it comes to suggesting an on-going relationship.

“Trump beams and uses eye contact before performing his historic firm-looking shake with Kim, but while he performs a mouth-clamp smile and a white-knuckle strong grip, Kim’s pose seems to involve a lot less movement and commitment.”

Kim and Trump’s conversation today lasted 45 minutes, with Donald later referring to it as a “legendary day.”

As they walked, the pair were pictured making jokes, however, their posed for pictures didn’t tell the same story, with both men appearing stern as they faced the camera.

It’s these photos Judi believes really reveal their one-sided relationship. She added: “The men do walk away chatting and smiling,’ she explained. “But often it’s the body language during the official stills that counts the most.”

The outing comes just a day after Donald attended the G20 summit in Japan, where he appeared to fight to be the “star” among the other world leaders.

According to Judi, his interaction with Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel suggested that he considered himself to be the star of the group.

At the event, Donald and Angela appeared sitting together in front of the press and their interaction showed they both appeared to have a desire to leave.

Judi said: “This brief press pose looks awkward and uneasy, with Trump in signature knee-splay and downward steepling of the hands pose while Merkel sits towards the edge of her seat as though keen to get away.

“After ignoring her invitation for a handshake at their first meeting, Trump does instigate the shake here. Merkel appears to touch his hand gingerly with her eyes on the hands rather than his eyes at the start, although she follows up with some eye contact and a brief eyebrow shrug gesture.”
