Whether it’s zumba, ballet, spinning, HIIT or body combat, many of us flock to enjoy exercise classes each way. They’re a great ay to unwind, relieve you of the day’s stresses, and help you keep in shape. But while the UK is still in the grips of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, there have had to be a fair few changes to the way your favourite exercises classes has to be run.

For starters, you may need to wear a mask when arriving and leaving your classes and in communal areas of your sports hall.

Your instructor may also need to wear a mask during the class.

Numbers may also need to be restricted so you can safely remain two metres away from others participating in the class.

But what do the new rules mean for indoor classes? Express.co.uk has all the details.

Can exercise classes continue in Tier 2?

Under the new rules, people cannot gather in groups of more than six people, unless exemptions apply.

Luckily for those looking forward to an indoor exercise class, there are exemptions in this case.

The Government advice reads: “Activities, such as indoor exercise classes and other activity groups can only continue provided that households or support bubbles do not mix.

“Where it is likely that groups will mix, these activities must not go ahead.”

This means if you take part in classes that involve team games, you will be limited by only six people being allowed to take part.

Organised outdoor team sport, outdoor exercise classes and outdoor licensed physical activity are still exempt from the rule of 6, however.

These outdoor classes and games can happen in any number as long as undertaken in line with published COVID-secure guidance.

But participants should be encouraged to wear masks in enclosed public areas where possible and practical, when not engaging in sport and physical activity.
