The hosts will look to make it back to back wins at the Africa Cup of Nations today to become the first team to book their place in the last 16.
After so many doubts and delays, Cameroon finally kicked off the latest edition of AFCON with a hard-fought 2-1 Group A victory over Burkina Faso in Yaounde on Sunday.
Captain Vincent Aboubakar was the hero on opening day, netting two late first-half penalties as the Indomitable Lions – who won the last of their five titles in 2017 – came from behind to win after Gustavo Sangare’s early volley.
Toni Conceicao’s side will now also be strong favourites to see off an Ethiopia team who lost their first fixture to Covid-hit Cape Verde courtesy of a Julio Tavares header before the break.
Yared Bayeh was also sent off after a VAR check at the Olembe Stadium, with Abraham Mebratu’s men now facing a very tough task indeed to make it past the group stage for the first time since 1970.

43 mins: Ethiopia enjoying their best spell of sustained possession.
It’s not where they’ve looked most dangerous though… on the counter breaking with pace has been where they’ve caused Cameroon real problems.
40 mins: It’s all happening now!
Corner for Cameroon, Ekambi wins the header but sees it thud back off the post.
Ethiopia go straight on the attack though and they have a 3-on-1. Don’t use the space though and when the ball eventually is played, Cameroon have enough defenders back.
39 mins: Brilliant defending from Tamene! Ethiopia hanging on all of a sudden.
Clipped through to Aboubakar, he chests it down and is about to volley it into the net…. but Tamene’s leg just about stretches enough to clear it behind for a corner.
38 mins: Ethiopia just slowing things down a bit as they win a couple of throw-ins.
They’d be very happy to go into the break level, and with a performance that will really encourage them.
Cameroon nearly ruin those plans though. Fai chops inside onto his left foot, whips a nice ball into the box but it’s headed away as Aboubakar lurks behind.
35 mins: First corner of the match and it’s for Cameroon.
They look dangerous from it too as Shanko comes to claim but gets nowhere near. He’s fortunate to see the header loop back into his arms.
33 mins: It’s another really nice move from Cameroon.
Worked out to the left and played back across the face of goal for Ngamaleu to have a tap in from a couple of yards into the empty net.
But he’s well offside, and the flag goes straight up. Don’t need VAR for that one.
31 mins: Good run from Aboubakar in behind, can’t quite catch up with the long ball though and it runs through to Shanko.
Anguissa down and looks in a bit of pain… he turned awkwardly and could have jarred his knee. He’s going to be ok to continue.
28 mins: Aboubakar moves his teammates away and lines this one up himself.
Straight into the wall. Worked back forward and it drops for Choupo-Moting in the box, but he pulls the shot well wide.
27 mins: Ekambi tries to scoop a pass through to Choupo-Moting. Doesn’t come off, but the goalscorer wins a free-kick as he was tripped after playing the pass.
Dagnachew the offender. He’s already on a yellow card… referee gives him a final warning. Ethiopia can’t go down to ten men again.
Ethiopia should be back in front! Lovely ball as Gebremichael is too quick for Tolo. Digs out a shot which Onana saves with his feet but it’s straight back out and the rebound falls to Hotessa.
He can’t quite sort his feet out quick enough and rather than tapping in from a few yards, he scuffs a poor effort towards goal and it’s cleared.
